2011 Eldercare Appreciation Awards« Top
The Eldercare Foundation held its fourth annual “Gift of Age” Cabaret on Friday evening, September 30, 2011 at the DoubleTree Hotel Syracuse. The event celebrated the efforts of Central New Yorkers striving to make a difference in the community through their work, volunteerism or service to older Americans.
The Eldercare Foundation salutes this year’s honorees:

James H. Abbott (Eldercare Accomplished Professional Honoree). Mr. Abbott has been a major leader in Central New York healthcare for over 40 years. In addition to having served as CEO of St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center for numerous years, he served as administrator for the House of the Good Shepherd and University Hospital, and as President of Franciscan Management Services, Inc. Although retired, Mr. Abbott continues to serve the community as Trustee and Secretary of the Community Health Foundation of Western & Central New York and serves on the Board of Directors of the Samaritan Center in Syracuse.

Syracuse Home Association (Eldercare Corporate Champion Honoree). Syracuse Home Association is a not-for-profit organization that offers a continuum of healthcare programs and services for older adults including: independent retirement and assisted living; memory and respite care; a state-of-the-art short-term rehabilitation program; and a 120-bed skilled nursing care facility. Founded in 1851, Syracuse Home offers all its programs and services at a beautiful 140-acre campus located at 7740 Meigs Road, Baldwinsville.
Attendees enjoyed a cabaret featuring celebrated jazz and blues singer, Antoinette Montague, along with singer, songwriter and Central New York’s Sammy Hall of Famer, Todd Hobin. Hobin also served as the event’s Master of Ceremonies.
“We hold this event with the hope of raising our community’s compassion for aging individuals and their families,” notes Sandra H. Martin, President of the Eldercare Foundation. “By recognizing the exemplary contributions of our honorees, we raise awareness of the importance of caring about, and caring for, our community elders.”
